Heather Jenkins, (53) from Donaghadee, enhanced her business skills and gained a valuable qualification by completing the City & Guilds Level 7 Professional Recognition Award (PRA) at SERC.
Heather has worked in the food industry in Northern Ireland for over 37 years. She started as a waitress at the age of 15 in The Cartwheel Restaurant in Bangor, later progressing her career as a Sales Manager in Rich Sauces, Newtownards. Heather’s next move was to take over a dessert business, A Slice of Heaven Ltd, followed by A Slice of Heaven Dessert Café and currently Maxemoo Farmyard Café in Millisle. Heather had studied at SERC for a Private Secretary’s Certificate and later completed the City & Guilds Level 7 Professional Recognition Award, as recommended by a SERC tutor.
On her course, Heather comments, “The Professional Recognition Award Level 7 involved working closely with my Mentor Barbara Murphy on-line. Barbara was fantastic, explaining exactly what I needed to do in terms of completing each module and the relevant evidence I could include. She would answer all my questions and queries. The course required me to reflect on my business journey which was enjoyable as I realised how far I had come.
“I believe the course has given me the confidence to feel equipped with the new qualification to complete consultancy work in the future. Many business owners have not attended University, but most have the experience and know how to complete a PRA and be recognised for their achievements.
Barbara Murphy, SERC Professional Recognition Award Training Consultant, commented, “It was a pleasure and joy to work alongside Heather who is an award-winning businesswoman in Northern Ireland. Gaining an insight into how Heather created her very successful business was a fascinating experience. Of particular note, Heather has worked alongside highly acclaimed names in the industry. I wish Heather continued success.”
Heather concluded, “My experience with SERC has been excellent. The advice and help from SERC is first class. I am delighted to have finally obtained the equivalent of a Master’s Degree in my 50’s! I would like to encourage anyone thinking of completing a PRA to go for it and gain the recognition they deserve in their industry. I would always recommend SERC to anyone considering further or higher education. Just do it!”
