It’s an open day but not as you know it! South Eastern Regional College (SERC) is set to welcome adult returners to their Newcastle Campus to, literally, sow seeds for their future from 10am to 3pm on Wednesday 17 August 2022.

In Association with Murlough Community Association, and with funding from Tesco Community Grants, the whole family is invited to come along and join in a vegetable planting session, where you can choose seeds, pot them up to take home whist taking the opportunity to see around the SERC Campus and find out about adult returner courses, Restart Education and Access to University.

Heather McKee, Director of Strategic Planning, Quality and Support said, “The first step to returning to education is walking through the door here at SERC.   Our innovative open day is set to encourage people to come along and enjoy the sessions with children, friends, or family, and find out what returning to College can mean for them.

“We will have staff on hand to provide advice and guidance on Student Finance, our impartial Careers Service, Little SERC Creche and the online application process.

Heather added, “Our part-time FREE ‘Restart Education’ course requires no formal qualifications.  It provides a nurturing and welcoming environment where adult learners can gain skills in English, Maths, Science, IT, Social Science, and Well-being and Resilience.

“For adults who have some qualifications, our Access course is designed for people who would welcome the opportunity to get to university, or who maybe feel they are ready to move forward in their career or even change direction.”

Heather concluded, “This year, SERC won the prestigious Association of Colleges Beacon Award for Widening Participation in recognition of our CARE project which aims to improve access to education in the Newcastle Area.   We continue to build on this success, working with the community and other agencies to address barriers to learning so that everyone who comes to SERC can flourish.”

Classes for both Restart and Access start in September 2022.  Book your free tickets for the planting session on www.eventbrite.co.uk search South Eastern Regional College.
