About Michael O’Neill

Michael O’Neill showed his leadership qualities when guiding Northern Ireland to the European Championship finals for the first time – and they reached the Round of 16 at UEFA Euro 2016 in France. During his first spell as Northern Ireland boss (2011-2019) the team also narrowly missed out on qualifying for FIFA World Cup Russia 2018. O’Neill, who had a 20-year playing career, has enjoyed success as a club manager, too. He guided Shamrock Rovers to two League of Ireland titles and steadied the ship with EFL Championship side Stoke City when relegation loomed large. In December 2022 O’Neill was reappointed as Northern Ireland manager on a five-year contract.
