A number of planning applications in Belfast have been given the green light following City Council’s Planning Committee this evening. (Tuesday 20 September.)

Approval was granted to develop 31 social housing units in east Belfast which will include 16 apartments and 15 townhouses. The proposal will also involve car parking, landscaping and associated site works on the Woodstock and Beersbridge Road.

Permission was also granted for a three-storey extension at Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School. This development will consist of a bridge link to the existing school building, reconfiguration of existing parking and the restoration of hard play areas.

Chair of the Planning Committee Councillor Carl Whyte said: “This is really positive news for Belfast and in particular the communities in east and north Belfast.

“Access to affordable social housing makes a real difference to people’s lives and will enable communities like those in both the Woodstock and Beersbridge Road to thrive.

“Schools and homes are the essence of our local communities and really improve the social fabric of the area. I am delighted these two major applications were approved this evening as everyone in our city should have the opportunity to access an affordable home and an adequate school building.”
