Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NI Chamber) has announced AWARE as its nominated Charity of the Year.

Over the past ten years, NI Chamber has raised over £120,000 for local charities including Samaritans, NI Hospice, Prince’s Trust and Age NI. This year, NI Chamber President Paul Murnaghan has pledged his support to AWARE, which delivers mental health support, outreach and wellbeing programmes for people right across Northern Ireland.

Announcing the chosen charity, Paul Murnaghan said: “It’s important that that the role of NI Chamber President supports not only businesses but also society generally. That is why the Charity of the Year partnership is so important.

“AWARE does outstanding work for people and families across Northern Ireland and its services play a crucial role in supporting people with depression. I am very proud to lend my support to the charity and there will be a number of opportunities for NI Chamber members to do the same, throughout the year.”

NI Chamber’s Annual Golf Day with Forde May will host the first fundraising activity as part of the new partnership.

Ahead of the event, Clare Galbraith, Head of Fundraising at AWARE NI said: “We are delighted to have been selected as the newest NI Chamber President’s Charity. With the organisation of their Annual Golf Day on 17 September, the team have already made a great start to what we predict to be a very successful partnership between AWARE NI and NI Chamber. We look forward to working together over the next year to raise vital funds and awareness for mental health services here in Northern Ireland.”
