  • More than 9,000 people directly benefitted from previous donation
  • Additional £1m will directly support up to 10,000 people in need across Northern Ireland
  • SSE Airtricity is also working with Bryson to deliver home energy efficiency upgrades to a number of households in Northern Ireland

29 March 2023: SSE Airtricity has provided Bryson Charitable Group, one of the North’s leading support agencies, with an additional donation of £1,000,000 to further support households in need of financial assistance during the ongoing cost of living crisis.

SSE Airtricity has once again partnered with Bryson which provides invaluable assistance across communities in Northern Ireland. Having previously donated £1m in October 2022, to target practical supports toward people most in need, SSE Airtricity has committed an additional £1m to further support these communities. SSE Airtricity is also working with Bryson to deliver home energy efficiency upgrades to a number of households in Northern Ireland, directly tackling the root cause of fuel poverty. Works will commence on these home upgrades in the coming weeks.

The supports announced in October 2022 have to date benefitted more than 9,000 people in the community and provided household support towards essential living costs including energy, groceries and essentials; as well as energy efficiency measures, healthcare supports and educational expenses.

The £1 million donation announced today builds on SSE Airtricity’s ongoing customer affordability programme, which includes a range of measures designed to support customers, households and individuals who are experiencing significant challenges in dealing with the rising cost of living.  Additional support will now go towards people living in fuel poverty, providing short-term emergency relief with household energy bills, food, essential items, and a range of longer-term interventions to maximise individual potential, including training and education, and support into employment.

Klair Neenan, Director of SSE Airtricity, said: “We’re proud to once again partner with Bryson Charitable Group and support the great work they do across the community. At SSE Airtricity we understand the pressure that households are under with the ongoing cost of living crisis, and we’re committed to helping those who need it most.

“Last year, through our partnership with Bryson, we were able to provide support for more than 9,000 people across Northern Ireland and we hope today’s announcement will go even further in delivering practical supports for thousands of people in communities across Northern Ireland.”

Shane Logan, Bryson Charitable Group CEO said: “We’re delighted to have the opportunity to partner once again with SSE Airtricity.  As the cost of living crisis continues to bite, together we aim to make the greatest difference to those in greatest need. We will focus on 10,000 of those in fuel poverty through emergency aid and longer-term help to maximise people’s potential across Northern Ireland.”

The donation announced by SSE Airtricity today follows the previously announced commitment to forego profits this financial year and invest in supporting customers around Ireland who are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis. The utility has also established a £21 million customer support fund to help its customers deal with the impacts of inflation and a global energy crisis.
