Meeting the demands of an ever-growing industry SERC are launching a new apprenticeship programme in Glass and Glazing.
The Level 2 apprenticeship provides learners with a structured program to achieve a knowledge based diploma and an NVQ, both accredited by GQA and on successful completion apprentices can progress to Level 3.
David Gore Apprenticeship Development Manager at SERC said “SERC have been working alongside a number of companies within the GGF – Glass and Glazing Federation to get a brand-new apprenticeship up and running.
“This would be a great opportunity for any young person who would like to get into the glazing industry through an apprenticeship and have the opportunity to forge a long and successful career in glazing.”
“We have two employers currently signed up, Turkington, UCS Group, Glas-Seal and Walsin Ltd, we have more prospective employers lined up hopefully to be confirmed in the near future. Turkington are currently recruiting for the apprenticeship, with apprentices getting a full-time permanent position with them on completion of the course.”
There will be a number of different pathways on the apprenticeship including Glass Processing, Fabrication of Glass Supporting Structures and Fenestration Installation. Skills and knowledge developed during the apprenticeship will include:
- Understanding of Health and Safety in the glass industry
- Handling, positioning and storing glass based products
- Installation of windows, doors and other glass related products
- Operating equipment in the glass industry
- Customer service & aftercare
- Specialist aluminium façade training
