South Eastern Regional College, supported by Newry, Mourne and Down Labour Market Partnership (NMD LMP) recently held a number of networking events for local employers to promote the apprenticeships opportunities available at the College across the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council area.

Local employers and key stakeholders were invited to the McNeil Room at the SERC Downpatrick campus where the networking events allowed SERC to expand the profile of apprenticeships and highlight how SERC apprentices can build their skill set and how SERC can support local employers through their range of apprenticeship programmes.

The evenings served as an opportunity to showcase apprenticeships at SERC to local employers and give them a tour of SERC’s state of the facilities. Employers and stakeholders also got to find out how SERC could help them with hiring an apprentice and the positive impacts it can have on their businesses and their industry sector.

The networking events focused on the hospitality industry, shining a light on the Level 3 Professional Food and Beverage and Level 3 Professional Chef Catering courses and on non-trade-based apprenticeships such as Retail, Administration, Childcare, Health and Social Care, and Beauty.

The funding from Newry Mourne and Down District Council, via the NMD Labour Market Partnership, not only helped support these apprenticeship awareness events but also went towards the production of a number of promotional videos to help expand the profile of apprenticeships at SERC, which can be viewed on the College website.

Councillor Michael Rice, Chairperson of Newry Mourne and Down District Council, commented, “The Newry, Mourne and Down Labour Market Partnership (LMP) Apprenticeship Awareness Campaign has helped to showcase the employability and skills provision available at SERC. The information events provided a great opportunity to raise the profile and showcase the very best of apprenticeship programmes and opportunities for students and local employers at a local level. I would encourage anyone with an interest to get in touch with the College.”
