Farming Carbon is collaborating with businesses across industries and across Northern Ireland. We are working together to plant trees on small holder farms, providing environmental impact, supporting biodiversity and creating ways to increase resilience through increasingly tumultuous weather.

Northern Ireland is the second most deforested country in Europe, which is exactly why we need to be planting more trees. Creating more woodland corridors through our rural places develops essential habitats for wildlife. We are planting trees around farm edges, to work with our food production systems rather than considering forestry and farming as mutually exclusive.

Our trees do not displace food producing or productive grazing land.

Farming Carbon offers an opportunity for businesses to address their ESG goals, and create simultaneous environmental and social impact.

Trees are class.

They sequester carbon and grow to create habitats for wildlife of all sizes. All of the trees we are planting are native Irish species, and for biosecurity have been grown on the island of Ireland. We have variety of 15 species and are working across local farms to plant the trees for a range of functions.

So far we’ve created hedges and planted out 3 separate small areas of woodland, with hardwood varieties of trees. The impact of the same species will be different in each of the locations. One will provide shelter to grazing animals and create a wind break on a hill. The root structure of the 150 trees will also prevent nutrient and top soil run off accumulating at the bottom of the hill. In another the woodland will assist in drainage, and in the third the trees will provide both a wind break and protect a river from run-off coming from a neighbouring industrial yard.

We have hosted All State Insurance, and Mallon Technology for planting days, with additional trees being sponsored by Deli-lites & Tarasis Enterprises. The planting days are full on but we’ve avoided the rain and finished up with tasty snacks and a cuppa on both occasions. It’s been a great opportunity for team building and having conversations about climate resilience and conservation at a local level.

At Farming Carbon, it’s important to us that our clientele get as much from the day as we do – so we shared blog articles specific to their planting, took loads of pictures, created short form social media content and shared the photos and videos with the team.

Farming Carbon is committed to providing evidence that Sustainable Farming can provide a solution for Climate Change. To do this we are working with Maynooth University & Microsoft to build a Digital Simulation of the farm and use advanced technology to understand the correlations and causation of increased soil health and diversity. With the digitised impact of our sustainable farm we are uniquely placed to provide an ESG solution to Northern Irish businesses that resonates with their stakeholders and demonstrates a commitment to the local economy.
