Having dominated the North Coast for over 8 years, supporting Snow Patrol and Two Door Cinema Club among many others, Factory 61 welcomed one of Northern Ireland’s leading indie pop groups, Brand New Friend, to The Factory Sessions, Armagh Campus, Southern Regional College on Thursday, 14th March.

Lead by singers and siblings Taylor and Lauren Johnson, the 5 piece performed their latest release ‘Grandstand’ in full, in an intimate live lounge studio setting. The unparalleled stage presence and energy of the band took the audience by storm, living up to their electric guitar and pop-punk driven ‘Seatbelts For Aeroplanes” roots. Playing Grandstand in full for the first time, the band successfully captured the mature and euphoric sounds from their latest record. With the audience surrounding the band, ‘Stars Bleed’ provided the perfect soundtrack for this special Factory Session performance.

In a Q&A answered by the band, Taylor spoke of the group’s inspirations for the album, citing the vocals of Hayley Williams and The National. With many aspiring artists and musicians in the audience Taylor candidly spoke of being in their shoes, discussing the challenges and triumphs of making it as a musician in today’s industry.

The event was run by Factory 61, a student-run production company giving upcoming freelance engineers the opportunity to work on real world projects. To keep up to date with The Factory Sessions follow @wearefactory61 on Instagram or subscribe on YouTube for exclusive performances from the night.
