Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council’s Economic Development Team Receive Top Awards

The Council’s Economic Development Team was awarded ‘Small Team of the Year’ at the prestigious Local Government Chronicle Awards (LGC) 2023. Beating off stiff competition from small teams from all local government departments and sections right across the UK.

The judges were ‘wowed by the amazing team and the unique approach to building a new culture within the Council.’

The team was also Runners-Up in the Economic Support category, receiving a Highly Commended Award.  The judges said ‘“A targeted major investment programme with clear passion and leadership from the Council working with local partners. A highly credible investment programme, delivering outcomes on the ground for local businesses and communities.’

More than 1,200 local authority professionals gathered at the Grosvenor House, London on Thursday 8 June to celebrate the very best in local government.

The LGC Awards now in its 27th year, are the biggest and best ceremony recognising the achievements of officers and politicians in local government.

The LGC Awards see entries from council teams across the UK judged by other councils’ senior officers, with the aim being to promote new innovation that can inspire other councils to improve their own services.

The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Councillor Mark Cooper said; “These awards recognise Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council’s commitment to “Delivering for Business” with the team’s fresh and innovative approach to business support and investment attraction. The team are well on track to achieving their ambitious plans of £1 billion investment and the creation of 3,600 jobs by 2025.  I would like to offer my personal congratulations to the team on this very deserving award. “
