SRC is the first college in Northern Ireland to “wake up and smell the coffee” as it has been approved to deliver the OCN NI Level 3 Award in Barista Skills for people working in the industry.

The College, in conjunction with its Business Support and Innovation Team, will deliver this qualification to employers as part of the fully funded “Skills Focus Programme” and assist the Hospitality Industry with re-opening and upskilling staff after the pandemic.

As the coffee culture continues to grow, this exciting course will give students a breadth of knowledge from understanding the origin, characteristics and production of coffee from crop to market, to designing a safe, hygienic and efficient coffee shop workflow. The course is suitable for anyone who has completed the level 2 Barista programme or anyone already employed in a coffee environment who has barista experience.

As part of this new initiative, SRC has developed a new Barista Academy, and invested in three state of the art coffee machines for training purposes in the Arches restaurant on the Newry Campus.
