FinTrU has today been announced as the official partner of The Macbeth Project, an educational theatre programme delivered in Post Primary Schools by the Bright Umbrella Drama Company

Having been formed in 2017, Bright Umbrella is a professional theatre company operating from The Sanctuary Theatre (incorporating The Little theatre) in Belfast.

FinTrU Chief Operating Officer, Richard McGuinness, said of the new partnership “FinTrU has a longstanding relationship with the arts and local community. We feel The Macbeth Project represents a fantastic way for students to connect with such an illustrious part of historical literature. We see the benefits of the transferable skills and learnings that can be gained from the arts sector here at FinTrU with a large number of employees having a strong interest in theatre.”

Richard continued “FinTrU places incredible value in collaboration with ‘partnership’ and ‘people’ representing two of our company values. We are excited to see the journey of the Macbeth Project as it spreads across schools in Northern Ireland.”

The Macbeth Project is a 70-minute telling of Shakespeare’s classic tale of murder and witchcraft. Suitable for all ages, it is particularly suitable for students studying the play at post primary and college levels and to those studying Performing Arts.

The play is followed by a lively illustrated presentation by Director Trevor Gill (BBC, RSC) on the background to Macbeth and on Shakespeare’s dramatic methods. The cast then retake the stage to be ‘hot-seated’ by audience questions which they can answer in character or as actors.

Sam Robinson, Trustee/Director, Bright Umbrella Drama Company at The Sanctuary said “The Bright Umbrella Drama Company is delighted to have an establishment of FinTrU’s calibre on board as official partners for The Macbeth Project. The support of our near neighbours FinTrU, affords the theatre the incredible opportunity to expand and develop this hugely popular initiative. It is always received with great interest in post primary schools particularly those where the play is being studied at GCSE level.”

Sam added “On behalf of both the local arts scene and the students who will benefit from their involvement, we would like to thank everyone at FinTrU for their shared interest, endorsement and passion for The Macbeth Project. We look forward to a long and successful partnership together.”
