Tughans LLP has been named Corporate Law Firm of the Year at the Insider Media Dealmaker Awards Northern Ireland, with Corporate Partner Paul O’Brien named Dealmaker of the Year, to further add to the team’s list of achievements in 2022.

Held at the Europa Hotel, Belfast, the event celebrates the major transactions and professionals who are enabling a whole host of mergers and acquisitions.

The judges recognised both the volume and value of Tughans’ deals in 2022, in addition to the strengths of the team and our use of technology. The awards follow Tughans’ recognition as the most active corporate legal advisor in Northern Ireland for the 8th year in a row in this year’s Experian Market IQ report.

Commenting on winning Corporate Law Firm of the Year, Head of  Corporate, James Donnelly said: ‘These achievements are reflective of a sustained team effort across all of our transactional teams. It is wonderful to get independent endorsement of the quality and ambition of our clients, the work done by our transactional teams, and recognition of our firm’s position in the business community”.

Paul O’Brien won the prestigious Dealmaker of the Year award, with the judging panel notingPaul has been instrumental in further developing the firm’s private equity and venture capital offering and has led the team on a number of the high-profile PE and VC investments in Northern Ireland last year. The judges felt his deal origination credentials, coupled with his keen commercial awareness, made Paul the stand-out dealmaker this year.

Commenting on winning the Dealmaker of the Year award, Corporate Partner Paul O’Brien said: “It’s great to receive this award, following a fantastic year for the wider corporate team. We must thank all our clients – we are grateful to have been instructed in so many interesting deals”.

Tughans’ transactions teams were involved in the winning Deal of the Year (over £10m) – Investment in Uform Holdings by Cardinal Capital. The judges noted the complexities of the deal and that it is a great example of a home-grown business attracting investment from outside Northern Ireland.
