Portadown Event Highlights Best Practice in Working at Height Safety
Industry professionals from across Northern Ireland and beyond came together at Industry Training Services‘ Portadown Training Centre for a dedicated Working at Height event focused on safety, innovation, and best practice in one of the workplace’s highest-risk activities.
The event brought together leading experts, trainers, and safety professionals to share insights on current challenges, regulatory requirements, and practical solutions for working safely at height. Attendees benefited from a series of keynote presentations delivered by recognised industry specialists, including health and safety speaker James (Jimmy) Gorry, Damien O’Connor, IPAF Country Manager, Sam Wilkinson, SpanSet Training Manager, and Chris James, SpanSet Technical Solutions Specialist.
Throughout the day, speakers highlighted the importance of robust safety planning, ongoing competency development, and the adoption of industry-leading equipment and procedures to reduce risk and improve workplace safety standards. Damien O’Connor, IPAF Country Manager, delivered a practical session on Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), highlighting the critical role of spotters in maintaining site safety. Attendees also took part in a rooftop safety demonstration with ITS’ own expert trainer, Lindsay, providing a practical overview of fall protection systems, safe access techniques, and the measures required to mitigate risk when working on rooftops.
The event also provided valuable networking opportunities, allowing attendees to engage directly with industry experts, discuss emerging trends, and explore practical solutions to challenges faced across construction, utilities, manufacturing, and facilities management sectors.
