The Utility Regulator has published its June newsletter, which provides an update on the organisation’s work over the past month.
In June, alongside progressing its key regulatory priorities, the Utility Regulator had valuable opportunities to engage directly with stakeholders across Northern Ireland and further afield.
These conversations, through industry events, committee sessions and collaborative initiatives, continue to shape the organisation’s understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the energy and water sectors, particularly in a period of ongoing global uncertainty and transition.
On 2 June, the Utility Regulator published its Draft Determination for firmus energy (Supply) (FES) Limited’s next price control, for the period January 2027 – December 2030. This price control is referred to as SPC27.
On 3 June, the Utility Regulator published a Regulatory Financing Models for Future Interconnection Information Paper and Summary of Consultation Responses Paper.
The organisation’s Chief Executive, John French, Markets Director, Colin Broomfield, Head of Market Operations, Marie-Therese Campbell, and Head of Market Monitoring and Analysis, Jean Pierre Miura, were pleased to appear in front of the Economy Committee on 10 June.
The team presented oral and written evidence on the decoupling of the Single Electricity Market and the impact on consumer energy bills.
As this year’s official partner for NI Chamber’s Regional Networking Series, the Utility Regulator was also delighted to attend the second 2026 event at Lough Erne Resort on 10 June.
On 12 June, the Utility Regulator was delighted to host a fundraising charity walk in Belfast as part of the Collaboration Network’s Vulnerability Week, in aid of Alzheimer’s Society.
The event, which brought together colleagues and partners from across the sector, including the Consumer Council for Northern Ireland and Power NI, raised over £3,000 for the charity.
On 17 June, the organisation published the Quarterly Retail Energy Market Monitoring (QREMM) Report for Q1 2026. This is the latest in a series of Utility Regulator reports that provide a range of information about the retail energy market in Northern Ireland.
This month the Utility Regulator also published a number of other important documents, including:
- A consultation on Northern Ireland Water’s allowed revenue for the PC21 Price Control extension year (16 June).
- A decision on the financial incentive for SONI’s Evaluative Performance Framework (EPF) Performance for 2024/2025 (18 June).
- A decision on amendments to SONI’s licence revenue formula to facilitate Clean Energy Package costs and k-factor changes (24 June).
- A consultation on the approach to the next price control for the gas distribution network, that is referred to as GD29 (25 June).
