The Utility Regulator has published its latest newsletter which provides an update on the organisation’s work during August.

Last month, the Utility Regulator issued a warm welcome to its new Board Members, Paul McGowan and Anthony Pygram. Appointed by the Department of Finance, Paul and Anthony each began seven-year terms with the organisation on 25 August.

In addition to its daily operations, another busy month saw the Utility Regulator engage with its stakeholders in person, and attend and speak at events.

On 18 August, the organisation hosted Electric Vehicle Association NI at its office in Belfast. Together, they discussed potential reforms to help accelerate the shift to electric vehicles in Northern Ireland.

Last month, the Utility Regulator’s Director of Price Controls, Elaine Cassidy, was pleased to address delegates at World Water Week 2025, which took place from 24 to 28 August in Stockholm.

On 7 August, the Utility Regulator announced the commencement of its formal review of the regulated tariffs for customers of SSE Airtricity Gas Supply (Greater Belfast and West areas), Firmus Energy (Ten Towns area), and Power NI’s domestic customers.

Throughout the month, the organisation also published a number of other important documents. These include:

  • consultation on Biomethane Modifications to Gas Conveyance Licences.
  • consultation on ‘Third Party Intermediaries in the Energy Market.’

In this edition, the Utility Regulator is profiling its Markets Director, Colin Broomfield, and Regulatory Analyst, Jewel Joshy, both of whom have been working on the tariff reviews for regulated electricity and gas suppliers.

The Utility Regulator would be delighted to hear any feedback you have on its newsletter and any issues that you would like to see covered in future editions, via info@uregni.gov.uk.
