The Irish News has once again reaffirmed its position as the UK and Ireland’s best-selling regional daily newspaper, underscoring its role as a trusted source of news and a vital platform for Northern Ireland’s business community.

Latest figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) reveal that in 2024, The Irish News sold close to seven million copies—significantly outperforming all other locally produced Northern Ireland titles. In the second half of the year (July-December), the newspaper recorded an average daily circulation of 21,181, keeping it at the top of the UK’s regional daily newspaper league table.

The Irish News remains ahead of other major UK regional dailies, including the Aberdeen Press & Journal (20,542 daily sales), Dundee Courier (15,737), Eastern Daily Press (11,778), Liverpool Echo (9,628), and Yorkshire Post (8,876).

This period also marked the first full six months under the editorship of Chris Sherrard, who took over from long-standing editor Noel Doran in February 2024.

Commenting on the achievement, IntoMedia Group Chief Executive Officer Dominic Fitzpatrick said:

“These figures highlight the resilience and continued relevance of The Irish News at a time of significant challenges in the media industry. Maintaining our position as the UK and Ireland’s top-selling regional daily is a testament to the trust our readers place in us and the commitment of our editorial and commercial teams.

“While circulation trends continue to shift, our focus remains on delivering high-quality, independent journalism that informs, engages, and supports both individuals and businesses across Northern Ireland. We will continue to evolve to meet the needs of our audience across both print and digital platforms.”

The Irish News plays a vital role in the region’s economic and commercial landscape, providing an influential platform for local businesses to share their stories, connect with key stakeholders, and reach a highly engaged audience.

Annette McManus, Chief Marketing Officer at IntoMedia Group, added:

“In a rapidly evolving media landscape, maintaining our position as the best-selling regional daily is not just about numbers—it’s about the strength of our journalism, the loyalty of our readers, and the critical role we play in supporting Northern Ireland’s business community.

“The Irish News is more than a newspaper; it’s a trusted partner for businesses, offering a platform that amplifies voices, fosters connections, and drives conversations that matter.
