The competitive advantage you might be overlooking

Lagan Aviation & Infrastructure has just signed the Armed Forces Covenant but for them, this is not the beginning of a relationship with Defence. It is the formal recognition of one that has been built over more than 30 years of delivering aviation and infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally.

That relationship has been built, in large part, through people.

Reservists and veterans bring something that is genuinely difficult to recruit for: leadership under pressure, calm decision-making, and the kind of teamwork that holds together in difficult conditions. For a business operating in complex, demanding environments, that is not a nice-to-have. It is a competitive advantage.

Lagan’s experience is not unique. Here in Northern Ireland, a growing number of organisations are discovering the same thing — some already employing Reservists, others just beginning to explore what it could mean for their business.

Through Defence Relationship Management, we work with employers to make that first step straightforward, removing the uncertainty and helping businesses engage in a way that works for them.

On Thursday 7 May, at the National Stadium, Windsor Park, we are bringing employers together to hear directly from businesses already doing this — what they did, what they gained, and what they would do differently. The session is short, practical, and designed around your questions. It includes a networking lunch and a tour of the stadium.

Spaces are limited and going quickly. If this is something you have been thinking about, this is the right room to be in.
