Antrim and Newtownabbey Labour Market Partnership, in partnership with Northern Regional College, is excited to launch the Welding Skills Academy, a fully funded four-week programme designed to equip participants with essential welding skills and connect them directly with local employment opportunities.
Funded by the Department for Communities, Labour Market Partnerships create targeted employment action plans for council areas, allowing for collaboration at local and regional level to support people towards and into work. Running from 26 January, this Academy offers practical, hands-on training across a range of welding processes, company visits, and direct links to employers.
Participants will gain an ETCAL Level 2 Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations (NI), access to additional development and training opportunities, and enhanced employability skills including CV writing, interview preparation, and confidence building. The programme also includes a guaranteed job interview, opening a pathway to potential employment and further training.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Leah Kirkpatrick said
“The Welding Skills Academy is an excellent opportunity for residents to gain hands-on skills and improve their employability. I encourage anyone looking to start or progress a career in engineering to take part and make the most of this unique programme.”
Applicants must be aged 16 or over, live in the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council area, and be economically inactive, unemployed, underemployed, or at risk of redundancy. Local businesses interested in participating, offering site visits, or filling vacancies through the Academy are encouraged to get involved.
