Eakin Healthcare welcomed the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland to its headquarters in Comber yesterday, where the Minister met senior leaders and toured production facilities. The visit showcased Eakin Healthcare’s continued investment in UK manufacturing, including ongoing expansion works at the Comber site, and the company’s role in delivering trusted medical devices to patients and clinicians internationally.
Padraic Dempsey, Chief Executive Officer at Eakin Healthcare, said:
“We were honoured to host the Secretary of State in Comber. As a UK manufacturer serving healthcare professionals and patients around the world, we’re investing significantly across our sites to accelerate innovation, strengthen supply resilience and support high‑quality jobs in Northern Ireland. The visit recognises the contribution our teams make as they take the lead on life-changing and life-saving innovations.”
The Minister’s programme included discussions on establishing a Centre of Excellence for Ostomy at Eakin Healthcare’s Comber headquarters, supported by Invest NI funding. This initiative will enable the company to introduce pilot production lines focused on skin‑friendly medical adhesives and develop the next generation of ostomy pouches. The visit also provided an opportunity to explore Eakin Healthcare’s growth trajectory, expanding export footprint, and its strong commitment to sustainability and a people‑focused culture.
Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Hilary Benn said:
“Eakin Healthcare is a great example of the entrepreneurial spirit of Northern Ireland companies, and their innovation has enabled them to export their quality products around the world.
“The UK Government is committed to supporting Northern Ireland businesses and helping to generate investment and economic growth.
“This includes our investment in Northern Ireland’s City and Growth Deals, the new UK modern industrial strategy and better information for businesses trading across the UK internal market, announced at the Budget.”
