Today the CMA has published the results of a web sweep of over 100 businesses as part of a new phase of the CMA’s work to protect consumers who rely on online reviews.
The sweep looked at whether businesses had published policies prohibiting fake reviews and how they approach incentivised reviews, e.g. banning them or making it clear that they must be labelled and genuine – requirements that are set out in the CMA’s guidance.
Results of the sweep revealed over half of the businesses we looked at could be at risk of failing to comply with CMA guidance – the CMA is writing to those firms setting out our concerns. You can read about this in more detail on our case page here.
Supporting compliance – CMA webinar 4th September, 2pm
On Thursday 4 September, the CMA is holding a webinar to help businesses who publish customer reviews understand what steps they should take to comply with legislative changes introduced in April 2025.
This session is open to all businesses, and advisors, who publish customer reviews – whether or not they received a letter following the CMA’s sweep and is intended to help businesses navigate the law.
