Our Commitment to a Greener Future

As the world evolves, environmental responsibility is no longer just an option—it’s essential. Nicholl Oils are proud to be at the forefront of sustainable energy solutions, taking proactive steps to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to the sustainability of our planet. Through the installation of solar energy to our sites, investing in green energy, the sale of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) to our customers and using HVO in our fleet, we are taking meaningful strides towards a greener and cleaner future for all.

We recognise the environmental impact that transportation fuels can have. In 2020, we introduced Nicholl Oils’ Clean Air HVO Renewable Diesel (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) as a sustainable fuel option for our customers. HVO is a next-generation biofuel derived from renewable raw materials like vegetable oils and waste fats. It offers a sustainable alternative solution to traditional diesel, delivering lower greenhouse gas emissions, improved engine performance, and better air quality. By making HVO available to customers, we empower everyone to reduce their carbon footprint with us, contributing to cleaner air and a healthier environment for all.

In June 2025, we began the installation of solar panels across our Nicholl Auto 365 sites, starting at Newtownabbey. 13kW of south facing panels were installed on the canopy with a 10kW inverter. This allows us to generate clean, renewable energy directly from the sun and supports our ESG strategy. This is our next step to meeting the NI Energy Strategy targets towards Net Zero. By investing in solar power infrastructure, we significantly reduce grid reliance, lower our carbon footprint and reduce the impact of rising costs, whilst generating clean energy. The environment will also see a 14% decrease in harmful emissions and avoiding the release of 2.5 tonnes of Co2 per year.

Complementing our solar initiatives, we have been awarded Green Energy Certificates (GECs), which represent our commitment to generating electricity from renewable sources. By investing in green energy, we support the broader development of renewable energy projects worldwide.

Together, these initiatives reflect our unwavering commitment to lowering our carbon footprint and protecting the planet. By combining solar energy, green energy certificates, and sustainable fuels like HVO, Nicholl Oils is embracing a more sustainable and resilient future for our community for generations to come.
