Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is continuing the phased installation of new Dog Control Order signage at relevant parks, open spaces and other Council-managed locations across the Borough.
The colour-coded signage is intended to make it easier for dog owners to understand the requirements which apply in each area. Depending on the location, signs will indicate where:
· Dogs are permitted and may be exercised off lead
· Dogs must be kept on a lead
· Dogs are not permitted
· Other specific dog control requirements apply.
The signage is being rolled out on a phased basis across the Borough, with priority areas being targeted first.
While the signage rollout is ongoing, dog owners can check the designated areas and the requirements which apply at each location using the maps and information available on the Council website at antrimandnewtownabbey.gov.uk/dog-control-maps.
Dog owners are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the requirements before entering or exercising their dog within an area and to look out for the new colour-coded signage as it is installed.
The Dog Control Orders support responsible dog ownership and help ensure that Council spaces can be enjoyed safely and responsibly by everyone.
Dog owners who are found in breach of the Dog Order Control can face a penalty of up to £1,000.
Commenting on the new signage, Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Henry Cushinan said, “This signage will act as a key guideline for all dog owners and ensure the Borough can be enjoyed by all residents and visitors. It is important that dog owners familiarise themselves with the new signs and follow them with due care and attention.”
