A new five-day programme designed to build confidence, develop employability skills and provide hands-on vocational experience for people with disabilities will take place from 27 April to 1 May 2026, running daily from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Delivered by Antrim and Newtownabbey Labour Market Partnership, the ‘Enable Futures Academy’ aims to support participants in developing practical skills and exploring potential pathways into employment.

Funded by the Department for Communities, Labour Market Partnerships create targeted employment action plans for council areas, allowing for collaboration at local and regional levels to support people towards and into work.

The supportive programme will bring together individuals with disabilities to take part in a structured week of personal development, practical learning and employability preparation. Participants will begin the programme with welcome sessions, introductions and ice-breaker activities designed to help build confidence, encourage engagement and create a positive group environment.

During the week, participants will receive training in food hygiene while also exploring budgeting basics and healthy lifestyle choices through practical discussions and activities. The programme will also include vocational sampling, giving participants the opportunity to experience practical vocational areas and gain insight into different career paths. Areas available include catering, joinery, motor vehicle, painting and decorating, childcare and business administration.

The final day of the programme will focus on employability skills, with participants taking part in workshops, mock interviews and discussions about potential next steps following the programme. The week will conclude with a Celebrating Success event where participants will receive certificates recognising their participation and achievements.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Leah Kirkpatrick said: “Programmes like the Enable Futures Academy play an important role in helping people build confidence, develop new skills and explore future career opportunities. It is fantastic to see organisations working together to create inclusive opportunities that support people with disabilities to reach their potential and take positive steps towards employment.”
