Mills Selig has expanded its Banking & Finance team, bringing exceptional legal expertise to its growing Financial Services practice in Northern Ireland. The move highlights the firm’s strategic commitment to providing sophisticated, results-driven advice to lenders, corporate borrowers, and financial institutions, both locally and internationally.
Based in Belfast, Mills Selig is a local and independent commercial law firm specialising in high value and complex matters. The firm’s Banking & Finance team, led by Partner Richard Houliston, has recently grown with the appointments of Nichola Coghlan as Legal Director, alongside Andrew McClurg at Associate level, and Hannah Roleston as Solicitor. These strategic hires strengthen the team’s capability to manage complex, multi-jurisdictional finance transactions, reinforcing Mills Selig’s position as a leading adviser in the financial services sector.
Richard Houliston commented on the expansion: “Nichola, Andrew, and Hannah bring a wealth of experience across real estate finance, corporate lending, social housing, and structured deals. Their expertise allows us to provide clients with practical, commercially focused solutions and reinforces our ability to deliver complex transactions seamlessly and with confidence. We had a busy 2025, with the firm being involved on a number of fantastic mandates, including several deals which have been shortlisted in the NI Dealmakers Awards 2026:
Shortlisted in Private Equity / Venture Capital Deal of the Year for our involvement in the sale of Natural World Products by MML Growth Capital Partners Ireland and 57 Stars to Ara Partners
Deals of the Year (below £2.5m) for advising Whiterock on its investments into each of Central Fusion, Cumulus Neuroscience and Neurovalens
Deal of the Year (£2.5m – £10m) for advising CBRE NI on its sale to an Employee Ownership Trust
Deal of the Year (above £10m) for our involvement in advising Hospital Services Gorup on its sale to Asker Healthcare”
Under Richard Houliston’s leadership, the team advises a wide range of lenders and corporate borrowers, providing clear, strategic guidance across real estate finance, corporate and commercial banking, acquisition and leveraged finance, and social housing finance. The team also offers expertise in international finance, debt capital markets and securitisation, loan book trading, project and renewables finance, fund finance, and asset and receivables finance. In addition, the team works closely with the Property team led by Anne Skeggs, the Corporate team led by Chris Guy and the Construction team led by Adrian Kerr. This holistic, collaborative approach gives clients the advantage of having their legal advisors working seamlessly under one roof.
“Our ambition is clear: to build a market-leading Financial Services practice defined by technical excellence, sector insight, and the ability to deliver on the most complex transactions. We continue to provide market leading advices around social housing finance – for example advising Danske Bank on its £35m revolving credit facilities to Apex Housing Association.” Richard continued.
The expansion forms part of Mills Selig’s broader strategy to strengthen its Financial Services sector focus. By combining deep legal knowledge with strategic recruitment and a results-driven approach, the firm is positioned to meet growing client demand, tackle complex financial transactions, and continue to lead Northern Ireland’s market in specialist financial services advice.
