Leading Health & Safety and industrial training business, Industry Training Services (ITS), celebrated success in the Employer of the Year category at the recent Business Eye Family Business Awards held at The Culloden Estate and Spa.
ITS was delighted to be shortlisted in both the Employer of the Year and Service Sector Excellence categories, which recognise the importance ITS place on delivering high standards of service to their customers, and a great work environment for their employees.
ITS faced stiff competition in both categories but were thrilled to be Highly Commended Runners Up in the Employer of the Year category. Brendan Crealey, Managing Director said:
“It can be more challenging to attract employees to a small to medium size family business located in a relatively rural setting like ITS in comparison to a large town or city office. However, we’ve worked really hard over the years to develop our recruitment process and offer an employee focused rewards package that enables us to secure high calibre employees who share our vision and will hopefully go on to become long-term team members and beneficiaries of our success. Two of our employees have been with the company for over 15 years. We’ve also created many new roles over the last few years, with more to be announced by the end of the year.”
Brendan founded ITS in 2000 after many years spent working as a Civil Engineer on large UK motorway and infrastructure projects. The vision was and still is to build a market leading team of people who deliver engaging training courses that enable participating companies to improve productivity, employee engagement, and staff retention, whilst fostering safer working practices and behaviours to reduce accidents and fatalities.
More than two decades on since its launch and ITS is delivering locally and globally recognised training courses to businesses throughout Ireland, across a broad range of sectors including construction, utilities, manufacturing, engineering, telecoms, and housing. Their purpose-built training centre at their Portadown headquarters is situated on a 12-acre site close to the M1 Motorway. It enables ITS to deliver training on topics such as covered street works, confined spaces, scaffolding, working at heights, operating large plant and machinery, temporary works, first aid, and safety in excavations. ITS also have a Dublin office and deliver courses at various locations across Ireland.
The ITS team are enthusiastic about supporting the local community and currently sponsor various sports teams and individuals including Maghery GAC, Portadown Golf Club, Armagh Ladies Player, Eve Lavery, Armagh Athletics Grounds, Portadown Rugby Club, and industry safety organisation, the Northern Ireland Safety Group (NISG). ITS has raised funds for Southern Area Hospice for over 15 years and are members of their Enterprise 500 Club. In addition, they’ve supported Suicide Prevention Charity, PIPS, Mental Health & Wellbeing Charity, Yellow Ribbon, and Craigavon Food Bank in recent years.
ITS invested more than £300,000 over the last two years to extend their Portadown headquarters and open a new Dublin office. They purchased new equipment including a scissor lift and two boom lifts to aid the delivery of their popular working at heights training courses, doubled training capacity with the addition of five new training classrooms, and hired new team members to ensure that customer needs can be met and exceeded.
With twelve full-time members of staff, four part-time, and fourteen associate trainers, ITS has plans in place to increase full-time staff by 50% by the end of 2022 to support their ambitious growth plans. This includes sales, marketing, and administrative staff across all departments.
