Stroke strikes every three hours in Northern Ireland.
“I woke up and all the power in my right side had gone…when I tried to get up my leg buckled, that’s when I realised how much had changed” – Andrew from Lurgan was 28 when he had his stroke.
The lives of people who survive are changed in an instant. Stroke is devastating but, for many survivors and their loved ones, that is just the start of the struggle.
3 in 4 stroke survivors experience at least one mental health problem, and 90% feel their emotional and cognitive needs weren’t met after leaving hospital. STEPS (Stroke-Tailored Emotional and Psychological Support), a counselling and emotional support service developed to address this need, is now at risk.
Stroke survivors need your help! If you want to ensure people in Northern Ireland affected by stroke can get the support they need to re-build their lives, we’d love to talk to you! We need people who care to come together and help us raise awareness and vital funds.
Your support could be the difference between despair and hope for people who have survived a stroke.
