Gold Medal Mary Comes to The MAC Belfast in Inspiring New Youth Theatre Production
Young performers from The Rainbow Factory School of Performing Arts will take to the stage at The MAC Belfast on 28 April with an original theatre production celebrating the remarkable life of Olympic champion Lady Mary Peters.
Gold Medal Mary tells the inspiring story of the young woman who would go on to win Olympic gold in the pentathlon at the 1972 Munich Olympics. Set against the backdrop of a politically turbulent Belfast, the play explores themes of resilience, ambition and determination through the eyes of a young Mary Peters striving to succeed against the odds.
The production is written & directed by Mairé Campbell and performed by a talented cast of young people aged 10–21 from The Rainbow Factory School of Performing Arts. Developed in partnership with The Mary Peters Trust, the project brings together youth theatre and storytelling to celebrate women in sport and the power of perseverance.
