Leading construction and fit-out contractor Gilbert-Ash has taken its Safety In Numbers campaign directly to teams across the UK and Ireland.

Following the health and safety campaign’s launch at this year’s GA Summit, the campaign was brought to life through eye-catching taxis, one based in Belfast and one in London, carrying the company’s striking Safety In Numbers branding.

The tour saw the taxis visit the company’s Belfast HQ, Tate Liverpool, Premier Inn Jervis Street in Dublin, RIBA HQ at 66 Portland Place, hub by Premier Inn Trafalgar Square, the Royal Academy of Music campus in London City Island and Long Ashton in Bristol.

In total, both taxis travelled more than 800 miles as site teams at each stop got up to speed with the Safety In Numbers initiative and its ‘Spot, Snap, Share’ approach to hazard reporting.

Those on site were also supplied with new hi-vis vests, water bottles and doughnuts as a thank-you for engaging with the campaign.

Building on Gilbert-Ash’s established health and safety culture, Safety In Numbers is designed to improve hazard-spotting skills, communication and confidence in addressing issues raised.

Anyone who sees a potential hazard on site, whether they are a team member or a subcontractor, is being encouraged to Spot, Snap and Share by using a QR code displayed at Gilbert-Ash sites across the UK and Ireland.

John McGerty, Gilbert-Ash’s SHEQ Manager, said: “It’s been fantastic to see how well received our Safety In Numbers campaign has been by all site teams and our clients.

“The Spot, Snap, Share element of the campaign makes reporting issues simple. The more eyes we have on the lookout, the safer everyone will be.

“Safety In Numbers is about sharing the responsibility and doing the right thing every time. When more people speak up, more risks are identified, more incidents are prevented and more people get home safely at the end of the day.

“Our focus is now on keeping that momentum going, making sure Safety In Numbers stays front of mind on every site, every day.”

Health and safety is something that Gilbert-Ash Managing Director Ray Hutchinson feels strongly about.

He said: “At Gilbert-Ash, looking out for our staff and everyone we work with has always been part of who we are.

“Our As One approach means what it says: we work, think and plan together, and nowhere does that matter more than on site, where everyone watching out for everyone else makes us all safer.

“We already have strong foundations when it comes to health and safety, and Safety In Numbers helps us raise standards further by giving every person on site the confidence and tools to speak up when they spot a potential risk.” To find out more about the Safety In Numbers initiative, visit Gilbert-Ash’s Safety In Numbers page.
