When Stephen Henderson was just 16, he started building musical instruments by hand in his family garage. What began as a teenage passion project has since evolved into two thriving Northern Ireland businesses: Ruach Music, a creative manufacturing company specialising in beautifully crafted instruments, and SJ Henderson Fulfilment, a dynamic logistics provider serving e-commerce brands around the world.
Stephen is celebrating another milestone – the opening of SJ Henderson Fulfilment’s second operational site in Kilkeel. The new hub adds 650 pallet spaces, just in time for peak season, and sets the stage for a bold new era of growth. “We’re transforming this space into a state-of-the-art fulfilment hub, with a dedicated team ready to pick, pack, and ship products worldwide.”
But it’s not just about space. Stephen has his sights set on revolutionising logistics in Northern Ireland, with plans for a 50,000 sq ft automated warehouse powered by robotics and 5G connectivity. “Technology and sustainability are at the heart of everything we do,” he explains. “We’re investing heavily in green energy to achieve net-zero in the next four years.”
For Stephen, success isn’t simply measured in parcels shipped or facilities opened – it’s about people. He’s passionate about creating a workplace where teams feel valued, inspired, and supported to thrive. “The relationships we build, whether with staff, clients, or partners, are the foundation for everything,” he says.
His entrepreneurial story is a testament to Northern Ireland’s spirit of innovation: from a young craftsman hand-building guitars to a business leader shipping hundreds of thousands of parcels across the globe. Looking ahead, Stephen’s ambition is to position Northern Ireland as a global leader in logistics solutions, creative manufacturing, and technology adoption – proving that big ideas can thrive anywhere.
