The free workshop will take place virtually on Thursday 5 August 2021 from 9am to 10.30am, and comes at a critical time for the sector as it continues to deal with an unprecedented period of uncertainty.
Featuring guest speakers Gillian Reid and Aoibeann Walsh from Rural Support, the workshop aims to explore the current pressures within the industry – ranging from financial and debt problems to physical and mental health concerns – as well as raise awareness on where to access support services and how to work together to help those around you.
Encouraging the local agri-business and farming community to sign up, Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Alderman Glenn Barr said:
“Faced with myriad challenges and complexities over the past year, the borough’s agri and farming businesses have been under immense pressure and stress, which has without a doubt taken its toll on everyone’s wellbeing.
“Therefore, it’s now more important than ever that we all look after our physical and mental health, and I would encourage everyone within the sector to sign up. With a range of support, information and guidance available, this workshop could prove to be a real lifeline for you and your family.”
Gillian Reid, Head of Farm Support within Rural Support commented:
“The summer sunshine always brings with it a feel-good factor for our farming families however it doesn’t fix the many underlying stresses and challenges. Whether it’s being closed with TB, impending farm inspections, family disputes, financial pressures or simply a poor work/life balance, these pressures will impact both the farm business and the farm family unit.
“It’s so important that steps are taken to address these issues before they become a crisis and part of this is recognizing that support is out there.”
This event forms part of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council’s Food Heartland Action Plan and the council’s commitment to not only engage with the sector but also to assist with and help address key challenges affecting these businesses.
