fonaCAB has won the 2025 award for Taxi Company of the Year, Ireland and Northern Ireland

This is the fourth time that fonaCAB has picked up the award, this time at a glittering black tie celebration ceremony held before Christmas at the Tower Ballroom Blackpool and attended by almost twelve hundred industry representatives from across the UK and Ireland.

The award, decided by a panel of industry judges, is evaluated on an organisations overall performance on factors such as contribution to the community, staff welfare and training, technology and innovation, and sustainability and environmental management.

Being awarded Taxi Company of the year wasn’t the biggest honour of the evening however, with the premier award of the night, the Lifetime Achievement Award, being bestowed upon fonaCAB’s Chief Executive, William McCausland.

While other awards were judged on an entry process and how well an organisation performed against certain criteria, the Lifetime Achievement Winner is nominated by peers in the industry from leading organisations across the UK and Ireland

Commenting on the wins, William said

“We’re delighted to have been chosen again as the Taxi Company of the Year, Ireland and Northern Ireland, and I’d proud that we’ve been recognised for our efforts from everything from community support through to our green initiatives. It’s wonderful that fonaCAB is regarded as being up there with the best that the industry has to offer, anywhere in the UK and beyond.

I am immeasurably grateful and proud to have received the Lifetime Achievement Award. I’ve spent my life with fonaCAB, starting with the odd shift as a youngster in the call centre before learning my trade as a driver in the 1980’s. Our business is unrecognisable from those days, but many of the qualities we tried to embrace back then such as our high quality of customer service endure today.

Our growth over the last number of years to become the largest taxi operator on the island of Ireland and one of the largest in the UK is immensely satisfying, but there’s still more we can achieve and I look forward to steering the company to further growth and success in the years to come.”

fonaCAB was founded in Belfast in 1962 by Williams parents, Sydney and Jean McCausland, the same year William was born. After sixty-four years it remains locally owned and in the same family.
