Funding helps provide 833 counselling sessions, 500 pain and symptom support sessions and 364 nutrition and exercise sessions

EY Northern Ireland and Action Cancer are celebrating the successful conclusion of their two-year charity relationship, which raised more than £110,000 and helped fund almost 1,700 cancer support sessions for people across Northern Ireland.

Since launching the collaboration in September 2024, EY employees have taken part in a range of fundraising initiatives, including cycling challenges, charity shop takeovers, bucket collections and community events. EY has also supported Action Cancer through skills-based volunteering, providing AI knowledge transfer and insights to the charity’s senior leadership team.

The funds raised are supporting Action Cancer’s Integrative Cancer Care programme, helping people access specialist counselling, pain and symptom support, and nutrition and exercise services. The funding is equivalent to:

  • 833 counselling sessions
  • 500 pain and symptom support sessions
  • 364 nutrition and exercise sessions.

Beyond the number of sessions funded, the services are helping people manage the physical and emotional impact of cancer. Action Cancer reports that 84% of people accessing counselling services experienced an improvement in their wellbeing, while 87% of clients using nutrition and exercise services reported improvements in their physical, psychological and general health.

Action Cancer’s services are available free of charge to people affected by cancer at any stage of their journey and are delivered from Action Cancer House in Belfast and at locations across Northern Ireland.

Rob Heron, EY Northern Ireland Managing Partner, said: “Over the past two years, the EY Northern Ireland team have embraced Action Cancer’s cause wholeheartedly, whether through fundraising events, volunteering their time or supporting local initiatives, and their enthusiasm and commitment have been extraordinary.

Raising over £110,000 for Action Cancer is a fantastic achievement, but the real impact lies in the support it will provide to people and families when they need it most. We are immensely proud of knowing that it will help provide counselling, pain and symptom support, and nutrition and exercise services for hundreds of people affected by cancer across Northern Ireland. We would like to thank everyone at Action Cancer for the opportunity to partner and support their life changing work.”

Gareth Kirk, CEO Action Cancer, said: “We have thoroughly enjoyed working with EY over the past two years and are incredibly proud of all we have achieved together. The support, commitment, and enthusiasm shown by EY staff have been nothing short of exceptional, and we have particularly valued the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with many members of the EY Northern Ireland team.

Beyond their outstanding fundraising efforts, this relationship has provided valuable learning opportunities for our organisation, with EY generously sharing expertise across specialist areas. We are extremely grateful for the knowledge, insight, and support they have provided.

The EY team brings remarkable energy and dedication to every fundraising initiative. Their support not only raises vital funds but also helps shine a light on the life-saving services we provide. Thanks to EY, we can reach even more people across Northern Ireland with early detection services and support when they need it most.”
