Belfast, 18 November 2022: EY Northern Ireland is pleased to announce Friends of the Cancer Centre as its Charity of the Year.

Local charity, Friends of the Cancer Centre is based in the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital and provides support to families across Northern Ireland whose lives are impacted by cancer. The charity’s work focuses on four key areas – patient care, patient comfort, cancer awareness and research. The charity is here to enhance the quality of patient care and support through its life-changing and life-saving work.  It does this by funding additional nurses, supporting local research and providing practical support, such as financial grants, which help families through a difficult time.

Friends of the Cancer Centre was voted as EY Northern Ireland’s Charity of the Year by employees. EY staff will support the charity over the next 12 months by organising fundraising events and activities. Recently, the teams across the two Belfast offices hosted a Big Pink Bake Sale in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The sale raised over £650, adding to the pot of monies raised so far and taking the current total to almost £1,200. Last year, the Charity of the Year was Women’s Aid Federation Northern Ireland and EY Northern Ireland raised over £10,000 for them.

Lindsay Russell, Partner and CSR lead at EY Northern Ireland, commented:As a firm, both locally and globally, we are always looking for ways to support our people, our clients and our communities. I am delighted that we have collectively chosen Friends of the Cancer Centre as our Charity of the Year. It is an incredible organisation that has significantly invested in local cancer services across NI since its establishment. It provides support to staff, patients and their families at a time when they need it most. At EY, we believe in partnering with like-minded organisations who strive to make an impact on our society. We are delighted to be supporting Friends of the Cancer Centre in the new financial year to help fundraise as much as we can for a cause that has such a positive impact on the lives of so many.”

Ana Wilkinson, Head of Fundraising at Friends of the Cancer Centre commented: We are delighted with today’s announcement that EY Northern Ireland has chosen Friends of the Cancer Centre as their Charity of the Year. Our charity funds lifesaving and life-changing projects that make a real and lasting difference to the lives of thousands of local people affected by cancer in Northern Ireland. Everything we do to support local cancer patients relies on our wonderful supporters who raise vital funds for us. By working alongside EY Northern Ireland, we will be able to reach even more people to let them know of the support available and to highlight important cancer awareness messaging.”
