Profits and sales soared at Creagh Concrete in a year when it added Norman Emerson Group to its portfolio

Creagh Concrete, one of the UK and Ireland’s largest producers of precast concrete products, has posted record-breaking results, which it says “reflect continued improvement in our financial performance”.

Turnover at the Toome-based firm increased from £116 million in 2023 to £125m in the 12 months to September 2024, with profit before tax soaring to £8.7m from £5m previously. And on a bottom-line basis Creagh retained £6,439,325 in profit – up on the previous year’s figure of £4,193,415.

It came in a year when Creagh successfully completed the acquisition of Norman Emerson Group, which it said “strengthens and complements existing offerings and aligns with our strategic vision”.Established in 1976, Creagh has evolved from a regional product supplier to a national specialist sub-contractor to some of the largest commercial and residential construction companies in the UK, providing a holistic service of engineering design, manufacture, delivery and installation of structural, flooring, façade and other concrete products.

“This strong improvement continues to be derived from procedures implemented in the previous years to improve cost control, productivity, contract risk assessment and management resulting in a more stringent approach to the selection of new contracts,” the directors said in a statement with its newly published accounts

.In June last year Creagh confirmed its acquisition of Norman Emerson Group, a leading independent ready mix, sand and natural stone products company, for an as yet undisclosed sum.Based on the southern Lough Neagh shore between Derryadd and Derrytrasna, Norman Emerson has been in business since 1945 and is one of a handful of companies licensed to extract sand from Lough Neagh.

Staff numbers increased from last year to 653, and the current wage bill is £29.9m.Creagh recently started constructing a new 4,000 m² factory at its Toome headquarters.

This factory will be able to produce 75,000 m² of precast walls per year and will cost £3m when completed.

This expansion is part of Creagh’s 2030 vision to double turnover to £250m.
