CASC has announced the launch of new automated tube bending, laser welding and CNC countersinking services, marking a significant investment in the continued growth of its engineering division.

The new capabilities expand CASC’s offering across its three digital manufacturing facilities in Northern Ireland. By combining in-house expertise with advanced engineering technology, the company aims to deliver faster turnaround times, enhanced precision and consistent results for its partners.

CASC’s tube bending capability supports a diverse range of industries, including public transport, agriculture, crushing and screening, and aviation. By optimising material usage, the machine can form complex shapes from a single length of tube, reducing the need for joints, welds and additional fabrication. Through automated processing and an integrated hole sensor, the system helps reduce production times while maintaining high levels of accuracy.

The company has also introduced a high-precision countersinking and tapping machine featuring advanced multi-process drilling technology designed to maximise efficiency and repeatability. Automated countersinking can reduce production time by up to 70% compared to manual methods, while maintaining consistent quality and accuracy. With integrated friction drilling and tapping, the machine forms deeper, stronger threads in thinner materials. Instead of removing material, friction drilling displaces it to create a reinforced collar before tapping, producing threads that are significantly stronger and more durable than conventional solutions such as nutserts or rivets.

Alongside this, CASC has installed a new laser welding cell, enabling fast, precise and low-distortion welds with exceptional consistency. This advanced capability further strengthens the company’s fabrication offering and positions CASC among a small number of engineering firms in the region with access to this specialist technology.

CASC’s Managing Director, Karl Crockard, said:

“At CASC, we are building a truly digital factory environment and are committed to investing in the latest manufacturing technology. As a growing engineering company, we have a strong focus on integrating automation and data capture to streamline processes across the entire manufacturing cycle.

“This forms part of a wider digital transformation strategy, which we are proud to launch alongside Queen’s Knowledge Transfer Partnership and the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre (AMIC). At the heart of this will be our new Digital Transformation Manager, who will lead this programme and help shape what our ‘factory of the future’ looks like.”
