Campbell College Junior has 850 reasons to celebrate reading
Pupils from Campbell College Junior have raised a staggering £850 for a local children’s charity by holding a sponsored reading event. After the school completed the charity’s ‘ReadOn’ challenge NICFC chairman, Ronnie Foreman, was presented with the cheque by his 3 grandsons, Eddie, Ryan and Ollie, who attend Campbell College Junior.
The aim of ReadOn is to encourage children to enjoy reading, whilst raising vital funds to support local children fighting cancer.
Alan Jemphrey, Charity Co-ordinator at Campbell College Junior said; “The boys really enjoyed reading and were even more motivated as they knew the money raised was going to help children in Northern Ireland living with cancer”.
At the cheque presentation Rebecca Spiers, Schools Fundraiser for Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children said; “I would like to thank Campbell College Junior for their amazing support. By simply picking up a book and reading, pupils have helped NICFC provide practical, emotional and financial support to local families coming to term with the devastating effects of a childhood cancer.”
Every week in Northern Ireland three children, teenagers and young adults (0-24 years old) are diagnosed with cancer. Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children is the leading local cancer charity providing support to families in the community, at home and in hospital.
The money raised will also fund the charity’s brand new therapeutic short break centre, Daisy Lodge in Newcastle Co. Down. The new facility will provide free short breaks for up to 500 families a year who are living with cancer. At Daisy Lodge families will have precious time to be together as a family during a traumatic and challenging time, to share experiences and gain support from other families and to create special memories together.
