Residents across Dumfries and Galloway can soon look forward to faster, more accessible, and easier to use council services thanks to the transformative power of cloud technology.

Dumfries and Galloway Council has adopted Civica’s Digital360 cloud platform, which will make life easier for local residents who want to contact their council, request or track a service, or simply update their personal information. Digital360, used by local authorities across the UK, will support Dumfries and Galloway Council’s strategy to move all software provision to the cloud, increasing access for citizens, reducing costs and enhancing security across all services. The software will initially be rolled across the Council’s Revenues and Benefits, Council tax and Welfare services divisions, as well as internal payment and pensions functions.

Dumfries and Galloway Council has witnessed a huge shift towards online service use since the COVID-19 pandemic, including amongst the region’s older citizens. A new customer portal will offer local residents access via their My Account, featuring online billing for the first time and speeding up the response time for enquires.

Around 160+ Dumfries and Galloway Council employees will benefit from increased access to Council systems via the cloud, supporting home and hybrid working and improving communication with citizens via the portal.  A large rural area with a population of approx. 146,000, Digital360 will also help the Council meet the Scottish government’s carbon reduction plan by removing more paper and allowing improved digital access to services.

Communities Committee Chairman, Cllr Archie Dryburgh and Vice Chair, Cllr John Campbell at Dumfries and Galloway Council said:

“People want the same control and direct access to the council as they do from everyday services like Amazon. The new Digital360 platform will allow citizens to transact with us in a much more meaningful way and we can solve issues more quickly.

“Across the Council, we’ll have more joined-up services for our citizens to improve service delivery across a wide range of areas. The system is also highly flexible and robust to meet the changing demands brought about by future legislation.”

Rachel Brier, Divisional Managing Director – LG Revenues & Benefits at Civica added:

“Digital technologies are empowering local councils across the UK to provide far more responsive and resilient services, rooted in reliable, joined-up data. This in turn is leading to better outcomes for citizens, communities and the environment.

We’re delighted to be continuing our partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Council as it moves more services to the cloud with Digital360, benefiting both employees and citizens into the future.”
