Belfast Harbour has awarded £40,000 to community organisations and charities across Northern Ireland, in the first round of its 2022 Community Awards.

Thirteen organisations will receive funding support for a diverse range of grass roots community projects, including support for employability and skills and sports activity programmes, environmental and community garden projects, and mental health and wellbeing initiatives.

Building on the success of first year of the Community Awards Fund in 2021, Belfast Harbour has increased this year’s total funding pot to £75,000, with community groups and charities able to apply for individual grants up to £5,000.

The groups to benefit from this funding allocation include GEMS NI, Greenway Women’s Centre, Flourish NI, Willowfield Parish Community Association (WPCA), The Parent Rooms, Angel Eyes NI , VC Glendale Ladies, D’Sign Arts (NI), Belfast Eagle Sea Cadets, Portrush Sea Cadets, Greenisland Football Club and Newhill Football Club.

As Belfast Harbour Commissioners marks the 175th anniversary since its foundation, a special anniversary grant has also been awarded to help deliver the Titanic Schools Project, an initiative aimed at celebrating Belfast’s maritime heritage.

Commenting on the Community Awards, Allison Dowling, Communications and Marketing Director at Belfast Harbour said:

“With social responsibility at its core, Belfast Harbour has been delivering positive social and economic impact throughout its 175-year history.  The Belfast Harbour Community Awards are just one strand of our wider responsible business activity, which last year included a combined investment of £250,000 in strategic community partnerships, grass roots organisations and charities.

“We are delighted that our enhanced Community Awards Fund for 2022 will enable us to support more passionate and dedicated charities and organisations, that are working to make a real difference in their local communities.”

The next round of the Community Awards will open in Autumn 2022. Community organisations, charities and non-for-profit groups from across Northern Ireland who are interested in applying for the next round of funding can find out more on the Belfast Harbour Community Awards webpage https://www.belfast-harbour.co.uk/community/community-awards/
