The Council of Ulster University are seeking to appoint a small number of exceptional external independent members to Council, the University’s governing body, from 1 January 2023.

The university is seeking candidates who would welcome the opportunity to share in the University’s ongoing journey and who will bring proven experience in the management and governance of a public, private, or community/voluntary sector organisation and with relevant experience in a range of specialisms, particularly financial accounting, and audit. Candidates should also share our values and passion for diversity, openness and inclusivity and a drive to support us in delivery of our new strategy, “People, Place and Partnership.”  Ulster University promotes and celebrates diversity, and, in this context, the Committee would welcome and encourage nominations from all communities – particularly those from members of the Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic, disabled and LGBT+ communities, as we recognise that individuals from these groups are currently underrepresented on the Council.  All appointments will be made on merit.

External members are defined as independent external members who are not staff or students at the University and who serve in an individual capacity and not as representatives of any organisation or corporate body.

The Council of Ulster University cares deeply about the University’s mission to transform and unlock the potential of people, places, and partnerships, building sustainable futures for all.  That commitment has only been strengthened by the challenges of recent years and, post Covid, Ulster University’s transformational impact on individuals, societies, the economy, and the environment are more vital than ever.  The opening this month of our new £360m Belfast campus is the most recent evidence of this and there are more exciting developments in train to help maximise the potential of all our campuses.

Full details on the responsibility of a Council member, including how to apply, can be accessed on our website at:

The closing date for applications is 21 October 2022.
