Belfast-based large-format print and signage company Alexander Boyd Displays is highlighting the continued impact of outdoor advertising as it celebrates 80 years in business.
With businesses competing for attention across an increasingly crowded digital landscape, the company believes there is still a strong place for physical advertising, with well-designed outdoor campaigns capable of creating awareness, building familiarity and making brands memorable.
To explore what makes outdoor advertising effective, Alexander Boyd Displays has shared some of the key principles behind successful billboard campaigns, including the importance of visibility, simplicity, repetition, emotional impact and location. According to the company, one of the biggest advantages of outdoor advertising is its ability to reach audiences when they are away from their screens. Unlike online advertising, which can be skipped or scrolled past, billboards form part of the physical environment and can be seen repeatedly by people travelling through busy areas.
Alexander Boyd Displays has recently put these principles to the test with a billboard campaign of its own.
The company’s billboard features the deliberately provocative message “LOOKED, DIDN’T YOU?”, accompanied by the line “For 80 years, we’ve helped brands get noticed with print and signage solutions.”
The campaign was created as part of the company’s 80th anniversary celebrations and is intended to demonstrate, rather than simply explain, the attention that effective outdoor advertising can generate.
