A Landmark Victory in AGS Rugby’s 50th Anniversary Year

Wednesday marked a defining moment in AGS Rugby history. For the first time ever, the school lifted a trophy at 1st XV level—a milestone made even more special as it coincides with our 50th Anniversary year. This victory is not just a sporting achievement; it is a testament to the dedication, resilience, and unity that have defined this squad throughout the season.

The Journey from Cape Town to Glory

But this triumph wasn’t forged overnight. It began months ago, 10,000 kilometres away in Cape Town. Back in July, the AGS Rugby squad embarked on an intensive two-week training tour, enduring long, gruelling sessions under the South African sun. The experience was more than just a physical test—it was a mental and emotional challenge, pushing players beyond their limits and solidifying bonds that would become the foundation of this remarkable team. The lessons learned on that tour—discipline, perseverance, and teamwork—shaped the course of the season that followed. This unforgettable experience was made possible through the generous sponsorship of Pentagon, our commitment to the team extended beyond the African tour and right through to the cup final. Our continued support has played a vital role in providing these young athletes with the opportunities and resources to reach their full potential.

Champions of the Danske Bank 1st XV Schools’ Trophy

On Wednesday 5th March, that relentless dedication and unbreakable spirit were rewarded as AGS were crowned Danske Bank 1st XV Schools’ Trophy Champions. The final against Larne Grammar School was a fiercely contested battle played in the best spirit of schoolboy rugby. The intensity, sportsmanship, and skill displayed by both teams made for a thrilling encounter, but in the end, AGS emerged victorious with a hard-fought 22-19 win.
