Ian Campbell, founder of Belfast-based charity Ten Foundations, is preparing to mark his 80th birthday in a remarkable way — by leading Ride for Hope 2026, a 500-kilometre charity cycle through Luzon in the Philippines to raise funds for women and families living in extreme poverty.
The event will see Ian and a group of supporters cycle from the northern tip to the southern coast of Luzon, finishing at the Bayanihan Village, Ten Foundations’ flagship livelihood centre.
Ian, a long-time member of Better Gym Connswater, hopes his story will inspire others to realise that it’s never too late to take on a challenge for a cause they believe in.
Joining Ian as co-organiser is Philip Gallagher, founder of Drop Hopper Coffee in Belfast. Philip is a passionate cyclist, entrepreneur, and long-time supporter of ethical, community-based initiatives.
“Ride for Hope is a celebration of resilience, of new beginnings, and of giving hope where it’s needed most,” Ian said. “Turning 80 isn’t a finishing line — it’s another starting point.”
The duo is currently seeking local and national sponsors to support the event, including help with bicycles, nutrition supplies, event T-shirts, and cycling gear. Businesses will benefit from exposure locally and internationally while supporting Ten Foundations’ mission to provide sewing skills, sustainable incomes, and education for women and children in the Philippines.
