10 Apr 2017
April 10, 2017
In his keynote address, Professor Jonathan Sapsed, Chair of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Newcastle University Business School will discuss the critical importance of arts and design skills fusing with technology, and how so called ‘superfused’ firms grow faster, especially in clusters.
He will refer to the findings of the Brighton Fuse project (http://www.brightonfuse.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/The-Brighton-Fuse-Final-Report.pdf), and to subsequent research in to the freelance sector, in particular those working in the Brighton cluster high growth creative economy. He will present their findings which concluded that contrary to popular belief creative freelancers are not struggling or forced into this mode of work, but are prosperous, innovative and motivated by aspiration.
This lecture will show the impressive growth of this increasing part of the working population and the power of fusion in individuals, as well as some intriguing differences with businesses and the barriers that freelancers experience.
