An Introduction to 3D Printing
30 Jan 2019
January 30, 2019
The terms ‘3D printing’ or ‘Additive manufacuring’ have been around a few years now and have generated much hype. These terms could be applied to £100 hobbyist kits and to £100k manufacturing technology. So what really is 3D printing, who generally uses 3D printers and what do they use them for?
This introduction will give a brief overview of the technologies available, but will focus on ‘low cost’ FDM printing and how it can be used, particularly within small business.
We hope to dispel some of the myths, both good and bad, surrounding this exciting technology and explore both its potential and its limitations.
During the event we will be running a live demo of a 3D printing project to take you through the different steps and let you view how a 3D printer operates.
As a follow on to this introduction, Belfast Met will be offering a series of hands on 3D printing workshops in which you can become familiar with the FDM process and see how you can use the technology to your benefit.
This workshop is for private sector start-ups or established businesses who wish to learn more on the benefits of 3D manufacturing and how to progress their concept development via innovative support and funding.
This event is free to attend and is funded by the Connected programme. Belfast Met run a range of programmes to help your business develop new products, services and processes. Talk to the team about how Belfast Met can help your business or contact us directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
