Figures released today for the period April – June 2011 show that the Northern Ireland unemployment rate increased over the quarter to 7.3%. More recent figures for July 2011 show that the number of unemployment benefit claimants increased by 600 from the previous month’s revised figure.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny addressed members of Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce on the morning of 18 November 2011. Referring to the current challenges facing the economy, including corporation tax, growing exports and the Euro Zone, An Taoiseach praised Northern Ireland’s improved reputation and paid tribute to the work of the Chamber and its members. An Taoiseach also underlined his determination to work with the Northern Ireland Executive to show that Ireland “is open for business.”
