Bodyguard and Line of Duty creator announced as guest speaker for annual NI Chamber President’s Banquet

The creator of BBC1’s top crime dramas, Bodyguard and Line of Duty, has been announced as the guest speaker for the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NI Chamber) annual President’s Banquet in Belfast this November.
Writer Jed Mercurio will join NI Chamber President Ellvena Graham and over 900 members of the business community at the gala dinner in Belfast Waterfront on the evening of 29 November 2018.
Mercurio’s most recent credits are Bodyguard, which premiered in August 2018 as the highest rated new UK drama since 2006, and Line of Duty, which transferred to BBC1 in its fourth season having been the most watched BBC2 drama series in the multichannel era.
He is one of the few UK writers to work as an American-style showrunner, devising scripts, producing and often directing his own projects, with complete creative control – a privilege he’s earned over a garlanded 25-year TV career.
His other credits include Lady Chatterley’s Lover, Critical, Strike Back, Bodies, The Grimleys and Cardiac Arrest.
Line of Duty and Bodies are both winners of the Royal Television Society Award for Best Drama Series; Line of Duty won the 2018 Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Best Drama Series and Mercurio won Best Writer.
Mercurio is a former hospital physician and Royal Air Force officer, having originally planned to specialise in aviation medicine.
The President’s Banquet is supported by NI Chamber’s Communications Partner BT and supporting sponsors Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Grafton Recruitment, Tourism NI and Tughans.
