Urgent support required in advance of OFMDFM meeting tomorrow
One of Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce’s top policy priorities is to secure the devolution of corporation tax to the Northern Ireland Assembly. We have worked closely with the Grow NI Campaign, OFMDFM, MLAs and the Secretary of State.
Much progress has been made, the Joint Ministerial Group presented a report to the Prime Minister back in November – and on Tuesday 26 March the Prime Minister, the First Minister and the Deputy First Minister will meet to discuss the matter.
Northern Ireland needs to grow the private sector and to address the fact that unemployment levels are at a 15 year high. A major challenge in this regard is competition from the Republic of Ireland where over 35,000 jobs have been created in the last year through foreign direct investment.
There is no doubt that without urgent action on the devolution of Corporation Tax powers the opportunity for transformational change will be lost.
