NI Chamber welcomes Red Tape recommendations
Commenting on the launch of ‘Making Life Simpler: Improving Business Regulation in NI’ a report released today by Minister Arlene Foster, Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NI Chamber) Chief Executive Ann McGregor said:
“The recent Review of Red Tape by DETI is a positive step in tackling the burden of regulatory red tape upon local businesses and NI Chamber welcomes the recommendations published by the department today.
Businesses want to see meaningful deregulation – the volume of bureaucracy hampering firms is still far too high and the government must continue to work to reduce burdensome red tape, particularly those stemming from Brussels and the European Parliament, which act as a barrier to growth for many firms.
NI Chamber looks forward to engaging with the department as it starts to implement the recommendations including the appointment of an independent Northern Ireland Better Regulation Champion which will engage regularly with the business community.
A recent Quarterly Economic Survey by NI Chamber, which received over 400 responses from local businesses, revealed that red tape is having some impact on 9 in every 10 businesses here. Employment regulations, health and safety and procurement regulations were cited as the most burdensome.”
